A social network is a map of the relationships between individuals, indicating the ways in which they are connected through various social familiarities ranging from casual acquaintance to close familial bonds. The term was first coined in 1954 by J. A. Barnes (in: Class and Committees in a Norwegian Island Parish, “Human Relations”).

Social Networking is a site which aims to bring people together.
This can be in the form of similar intrests such as Myspace did which was originally created for musicians to share ideas and promote their work. It rappidly expanded to such a degree that Myspace is used worldwide by all sort of people to promote themselfs or to make new friends.
